In Mark 7, we read that keeping the dietary laws is insufficient to make a man pure in the eyes of God:
17 When [Jesus] went into the house away from the crowd, the disciples asked Him about the parable.
18 And He said to them, “Are you also as lacking in understanding? Don’t you realize that nothing going into a man from the outside can defile him?
19 For it doesn’t go into his heart but into the stomach and is eliminated.” (As a result, He made all foods clean.)
Scholars say that Mark was a disciple of the Apostle Peter and that Mark simply put down in writing what Peter preached and taught. In this passage, the Gospel of Mark tells us that Jesus made all foods clean.
In Acts 10, that very same Apostle Peter receives a revelation from heaven:
13 Then a voice said to him, “Get up, Peter; kill and eat!”
14 “No, Lord!” Peter said. “For I have never eaten anything common and ritually unclean!”
15 Again, a second time, a voice said to him, “What God has made clean, you must not call common.”
This portion of Scripture was a reminder to Peter of the Lord Jesus' instructions that they were to preach the Gospel to all men, Gentiles included. This is a teaching that Muslims reject because it belies the claim of their prophet Muhammad that it was he who was sent to all mankind and not Jesus.
But this Acts passage also reminds us that the One Who had already made "these foods clean" was God. When Mark wrote that it was Jesus Who had made all foods clean, it was in keeping with the teaching of the rest of the Bible that Jesus is God.
In 1 John 1, we read,
7 But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Come on, Muslims. Say Amen and be cleansed!
