What Was the Name of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
Moses wrote the Torah, so he knew. Moses wrote how, after Adam and Eve sinned and were thrown out of the Garden of Eden, God's name was already known to them:
"Adam made love to his wife Eve. She became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “I have gotten the man that Yahweh promised.” Genesis 4:1, Names of God Bible
Moses also recorded how Adam's offspring worshiped this same God of the Bible:
"Adam was intimate with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, for she said, “God has given me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” A son was born to Seth also, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of Yahweh." Genesis 4:25-26
Moses also recorded how God appeared to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and that God had not changed His name:
Abraham
"Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” So he built an altar there to the Lord who had appeared to him. From there he moved on to the hill country east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to Yahweh there, and he called on the name of Yahweh. Then Abram journeyed by stages to the Negev." Genesis 12:7-9
"Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, the Everlasting God." Genesis 21:33
Isaac
"From there [Isaac] went up to Beer-sheba, and the Lord appeared to him that night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your offspring because of My servant Abraham. So he built an altar there, called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. Isaac’s slaves also dug a well there." Genesis 26:23-25
Jacob
"And he dreamed: A stairway was set on the ground with its top reaching heaven, and God’s angels were going up and down on it. Yahweh was standing there beside [Jacob], saying, “I am Yahweh, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your offspring the land that you are now sleeping on." Genesis 28:12-13
God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation." Exodus 3:15
“Go and assemble the elders of Israel and say to them: Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, has appeared to me and said: I have paid close attention to you and to what has been done to you in Egypt." Exodus 3:16
The name of the One True God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is used as many as 6,807 times in the Bible, and there is no doubt whatsoever what it is. All 6,807 Bible verses carry the same name.
It is not "Allah."
It is not "Israel," or any other name some self-appointed prophets decided to try to give Him.
His name was His choice, not man's.
And it is the name He chose to reveal to, among others in the Bible, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Moses.
His name is Yahweh.
"This is My name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation."
He never changed it when He spoke to us through all the prophets in the rest of the Old Testament.
And He never changed it when He came to earth in the form of Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah.
Yeshua, Whose name means "Yahweh saves."
As a matter of fact, Yahweh is the name Jesus used for Himself over and over again in the Gospels (see link below).
Jesus also instructs us to do all that we do in the One Name:
"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..." Matthew 28:19
The one name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
One God. Three Persons. One name.
Yahweh also instructed Moses about what to do to so-called "prophets" who came bearing the name of other gods:
"But the prophet who dares to speak a message in My name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods—that prophet must die.’ Deuteronomy 18:20
If the god you're following does not carry this name, then you are not following the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Turn away from that false god today.
Call upon the name of Yeshua, and Yahweh will save you, for...
"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people, and we must be saved by it.” Acts 4:12
